I only got to watch the first hour of the SCIFI miniseries TIN MAN last Sunday, but what I saw I needed to comment about the very Torg like storyline going on. For those who didn't know, TIN MAN is a modern re-telling of WIZARD OF OZ.

The Wicked Witch of the West (simply referred to as "Sorceress") has all the makings of an evil Ardinary, as Oz is very Aysle-like (including the steampunk nature). While all the other characters can be seen as archtypes to the various templates, Dorothy (referred to as "D.G.") is the hallmark restless Storm Knight waiting to bloom. The way she drives her motorcycle and fixes machines, certainly a Realm Runner.

The moment of crisis comes when the Sorceress learns that D.G. is part of some foretold propechy, and sends some of her goons (called "Black Coats") to Kansas to get her. As a large tornado bears down on the D.G.'s farm, lightning strikes around the area each have a Black Coat emerge from them. Best representation of a dimthread if I ever saw one.

In order to escape the Black Coats, D.G.'s only recourse is to jump into the tornado itself, which is a Malestorm Bridge that brings her to Oz (called the "Outer Zone"). Once there, she meets the munchkins, that look like they could be straight out of the Land Below. I cheered as the Black Coats brought out their saws and started to take down the trees they lived in. Visions of Imperial Stormtroopers doing that to Ewoks came to my mind, but that's another thought.

D.G. escapes and frees the Scarecrow, who is a lobotmized engineer. Escaping from the Black Coats, D.G. and Scarecrow meet an imprisoned former Sheriff of the O.Z. who watched his family get tortured when he refused to side with the Sorceress who rules the land. Freeing this heartless bastard, they learn he is the "Tin Man" (where the miniseries gets it's name). Tin Man is the Venegeful Hero. Later they find Orrorsh-like horrors that would coccoon people, and free the mute humanoid lion, who has some empathic healing abilities (Doubting Cleric, anyone?). Moving along a brick road that's suppose to lead to Central City (where the Tin Man use to operate from), they meet some steampunkish clockwork humans. That was the first hour.

I'll catch the rest when I have the opportunity to sit down and enjoy it all in one chunk. I recommend it to everyone else.
