[Torg] aysle a bit lame?

I don't see the problem. Aysle in my mind is quite different from most
fantasy worlds, for several reasons:
1. No standard miniature Dex-based thief race
(halfling/hobbit/kender). This means that certain character concepts
are just not possible (or desired, if you are trying to keep the party
somewhat honorable).
2. Dark Aysle vs. Light Aysle. While it's common for a world to have
places where the evil overlords hold sway, it's rare to have rules for
how the world becomes corrupted around powerful evil.
3. The Law of Observation allows for a complete nerfing of traditional
science, (what do you mean, the earth goes around the sun? I observe
the opposite, and whatever is observed is real!) and allows for a
pseudo-technological society built on magic (brownies in a box
toasting your bread, self-propelled carts, Morrigan Steam Cannons,
etc.)
4. Remember also that you have Core Earthers who have transformed, not
just into magicians, but elves, dwarves, and trolls. There are plenty
of stories that can be built around what happens when your brother is
now a centaur, and magic can't change him back.

As for the magic thing, you already have the distinction you want.
Dunad's Gift gave one magic skill and one arcane knowledge at one add
each to every folk, but that's not enough to make a real magician.
That requires training, as my current Realm Runner is learning the
hard way. (Being from Core Earth, he doesn't even get Dunad's Gift!)

Honor and corruption aren't that bad, IMO. Many worlds have alignment,
but here it has tangible consequences.

Cyberpapacy was already trying to influence Brazil, tying into the
Catholic roots of South America. If you want to set them up there,
that's no big deal. As for the Akashans, nothing says you have to have
them, but if you do have them, there already was conflict listed with
the Cyberpapacy. Added intensity may be in order.

Feel free to do what you need to do, but there is a vast wealth of
information given about the background that will make for good
roleplaying if you are willing to look through it.
