Spell Chips the hi-tech version of Ayles scrolls and
grimoires. As stated in the first line of the TKSB page 108. These
chips have to be plugged directly into a nerve jack. Not a chip
holder. Later in the first paragraph it states that dedicated techno
mages would usually have two or three nerve jacks installed so they
would have several Spell Chips at the ready This leads me to believe
that there is one spell per Spell Chip.
I have always played a techno mage this way. He would have one
spell per Spell Chip and have his spells in a Grimoire, which is a
book by another name of course. But if a Spell Chip can be like a
Grimoire then it should be able to hold more than one spell for
documentation purposes only. After all he is a techno mage why would
he not have his spell book on a chip? So how many data blocks would
a spell use in this case?
I am cool with the idea of only one spell per chip if you are
going to cast from it. And as a side note you can cast an impressed
spell from a chip with out causing a contradiction. On page 108 of
the TKSB second column. This is a product of the world laws and the
techno magic combination. The book states that the chip contains a
complex VX system that allows the mage to perform the complex
gestures and use the props needed for the spell under the theorems of
Similarity or Contagion. But you may need physical pieces of
Specific Contagion if the spell requires it.
So, I ask again. If you are just using the Spell Chip as a
Spell Book. How many data blocks does a spell use? My thought would
be that it would take a number of data blocks equal to the combined
total needed to learn the spell.
e.g. The Telekinesis Major, Pixaud's page 43, spell from my
earlier post has a combined total of Apportation/Inanimate Forces
16. So this spell would use 16 data blocks.
But from another aspect if you do use a Spell Chip as your
spell book. Maybe the VX simulation would be like a real book with
infinite pages? And you record all your spell knowledge on the
chip. Since it is a combination of magic and technology maybe the
format of the chip is dictated by the magic. Hmmmmmm.........
As always your thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated
and welcomed. Thanks and have a great holiday. :)
