[Torg] Characteristic damage

Recent comment on Wu Han's poison needle had me thinking a bit
about poison, and I quite like the D&D3 approach to treat it as
attribute damage rather than HP damage.
I don't recall seeing anything about characteristic damage in
TR&E as I've been reading it the last couple of weeks (note to
KJ: tad overlong in places, but damn well written - good job!
And that example of play I cringed as I started reading, but
after just one column I was sold on what was an excellent and
comprehensive example of how mechanics, game and narrative
interact)
I always do this don't I? Put an aside in the email which
becomes more the focus than my original point!
Anyway. Characteristic damage. Here's one thought. The most
complicated version.
Venom defined by Duration, Potence, Virulence, Recovery and
Target Characteristic/s:
Duration v TOU, RPs how long it lasts
Potence v Target Characteristic/s at frequency determined by
virulence, up until duration. Read RP on Power Push, as per
Magic rules.
TOU vs Recovery, how long it takes to recover all damage (assume
it recovers gradually over this period)
Apply multiaction penalty to venom if appropriate, so that order
of target characteristics represents which attributes most
likely to fall. Or this overcomplicates, so don't bother?
You could easily miss out any individual elements entirely and
treat it as a single attack against attributes, hand-waving
stuff or using fixed value for duration and recovery.
cheers all,
Phil
