It's a funny story, but as Rabbitfall points out the GM is the one
who dropped the ball, it should be pretty obvious to the PCs that
they're supposed to take the Chalice with them.
I suppose they may have decided to be inefficient and get the second
artifact off the train then go back to Oxford to pick up the Chalice
and then take the two of them to wherever instead of taking the Chalice
with them to get the second artifact and then going wherever. But
that's pretty dumb even as far as PC plans usually go. :D
Plus the players should know better, you never leave valuables with
the NPCs no matter how trustworthy they are, because the GM will always
have the bad guys successfully steal it from them! ;)
