In my games, I no longer use the General success column. Everything
that would be done through General Success can be done through reading
the result through the Power Push Table and reading the result as
success levels. This flattens the brackets (each rating below
Spectacular now has three values instead of a variable amount between
1 and 5), but it has the following benefits:
1) It is actually possible to hit every success level. As it stands, a
character with a skill value of 13, 14 or 16 cannot achieve a Minimal
success against a DN of 10 without cards, but a character with a skill
value of 15 can. In the same way, the character with a skill value of
15 cannot achieve an Average success, as a roll of 6 gets Minimal and
a roll of 7 gets Good success.
2) The difference between Minimal and Average is often so small that
they are often interpreted the same. This takes all the result from
0-2 result points and puts them in the same category. If absolutely
needed, a special case can be made for "exact success".
3) It removes a chart from consideration.
I know there were other systems proposed here, but this not only can
be tailored to any DN, but it also uses a chart that players already
have.
