Passive contradictions are mentioned in the original rulebook
but they're not called that and it's a very brief mention, like one
sentence along the lines of "if the tool does not require a die
roll to use then make one contradiction check at the beginning of
the scene".

Yes, if the tool is involved in something that involves a die roll then
the die roll becomes a contradiction check.

It was never brought up again because Mara essentially vanished
after the original trilogy of novels. She got mentioned a few times
in passing (the Tharkold SB mentioned her in relation to Kadandra)
but that's it.

Correct, there's no link. However, it does note in the Tharkold
sourcebook that techno-demons are affected by such things as the
Ward Enemy miracle and they are Entities so some Entity AK magic
spells directed at demons such as Bind Demon could work on them.
Others like Banish Demon though might not have any effect since
they're natives of another cosm, not summonings from a pocket
dimension.
