Well While they say YMMV, we've found a Psi axiom would be quite helpful. Of course we also have a use for the Social axiom, a few others don't.
In reality, it is how your group uses it. The axoims help define the realm and limit what is possible. I think your example of Nippon is perfect to show that a Psi axiom is needed, but again if you've read the past discussions, heated arguments can crop up.
Honestly? I think axioms could be used to help limit the powers that rely on that particular axiom. E.G. a magic spell cast in Asyle is going to be easier and/or more potent than say in Core Earth. Crossbow from Asyle shouldn't be as damaging/accurate/ranging as one made in Core Earth. Same for a prayer in LL compared to Nippon, etc etc...
The same, IMO, could be said about the Social/Psi axiom and Psionics. The more developed the mind, the easier it is to accomplish the task. Or however you choose to define the limits axioms provide the character/land.

Subject: [Torg] psionics
guys,
been looking at the psionics rules and i can see the problems you all have with it. as i never used it in either of my 2 campaigns i havnt paid it much notice before. however it strikes me that weg has gone for an increased difficulty per realm and added a whole bunch of axiom requirements instead of just the social one is because they didnt want psionics in nippon tech. to my mind this is wrong. i think it shold be just based on the social axiom and have a social axiom requirement for each psionic ability. id make the social requirement for psionics to be higher than nippon tech's then it wouldnt have normal access to them and id give core earth some world law boosting there social axiom just for psionics ( kinda fudged but it works to my mind).
anyone ever tried this? and how do you suggest id go about it if i tried?
feedback anyone?
cheers, mark.
