Hey all, LTNP

I just got done reading The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It's an
interesting story and a very quick read. The underlying plot is rather
involved; if you know of it, good. If not, read it or Wiki it so the
next few paragraphs will make sense.

While I was turning the story over in my head, something occurred to
me: ability to alter reality, indifference to human norms and
conduct... it makes sense...

Haruhi Suzumiya is a living Darkness Device!

Here's a Torg-based explanation for Harihu's existence:

The DD for Haruhi's cosm was somehow becoming weakened (not sure how,
but for story effect, let's assume that it's because if lack of use).
This girl, during one of her many searches for espers, aliens and time
travelers comes across it and touches it. Attempting to bond with her
was the straw that broke the camel's back as it were, and the DD
exploded in a supernova of Possibility (this would have been the
explosion of data that the Galactic Overmind would have detected), and,
as Possibility is wont to do, it flowed from the unliving into the living...

...right into Haruhi Suzumiya.

As a result of the explosion, the DD lost all memory of its former
existence. So when the transfer took place, it adopted (and suppressed)
Haruhi's personality, which included the desire for aliens, time
travelers and espers.

Therefore, the World Laws and Axioms of the cosm were altered in that
instant to allow for such things to happen.

This explains why time travelers are unable to travel backward beyond
that point: the Everlaw of One would not allow time travel back to a
point when time travel was impossible.

This would also explain why Haruhi "chose" Kyon; she is attempting to
bond with him as a DD would bond to a High Lord.

I think that such an NPC character (or a PC character with a player you
can trust) would be aweXome in a Torg campaign: fighting the High Lords
while simultaneously keeping this person happy so that they don't
unconsciously destroy the universe (or even the Cosmverse)

What does everyone think?
