I think it may be less hatred and that the Living Land is an easy
target. As the first sourcebook it's decidedly lacking in color and
'toys' in comparison to later products, WEG never really found anything
interesting to do with it except have characters from other realms
visit it and do bad things there, it has no interesting NPCs of its
own to interact with, the template selection is really sparse in terms
of actual Living Land characters, etc. I've always kind of wondered if
it would have ended up more popular if it had benefited from more
initial development by being like the third or fourth sourcebook
instead of the underdeveloped first one.
