Sorry, two corrections/conditions:

It takes five years as stated for a zone to transform entirely on Core Earth. That number varies on other cosms, but not enough to make a difference. At a relatively recent point, home cosms that were entirely pure would entirely drain the areas within them.

The Storm Knights in Aysle, flying bombers, could just drop rocks and avoid the whole long-range disconnection aspect. :)
