My first inclination is to suggest that in this case the DSR would move on to the next step if the SKs *fail* a skill check; after all, their goal is to keep the combat as far away from the crowd as possible.  The question then would be "what skill are we checking?"; maybe OoM on Maneuver?

Just thinking out loud, as it were. :o)
