We know from the golden rods scattered around the globe that the
Akashans did operate to some extent outside of the Americas. In my last
campaign I had it set up that the Forever City (and also the Temple of
the Map) was one of their earliest outposts, abandoned when they moved
to Central America.
India does have space gods connections; the Rigveda is seen by believers
in the idea as being not about gods with magical chariots, weapons and
whatnot but aliens with spaceships and advanced technology and weaponry.
Not to mention that the word "Akasha" originated there!
